Circular Economy indicators and perspectives in Finnish cities
The report investigates circular economy indicators developed within the CIRCuIT project and gauges Finnish city officials' perspectives on them. Aimed at discerning practical applications, interviews were conducted in Helsinki, Vantaa, and Kauniainen.
Commissioned by Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority, key indicators include demolition and construction waste, recycling rates, refurbishment versus new construction, demolition rates, and average age of demolished buildings.
Findings underscored the indicators' impact, urged cautious inter-city comparisons due to historical context, highlighted the need for systematic data collection, and called for enhanced understanding among city officials to capitalise on demolition and repurposing opportunities.
