Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a crucial role in enhancing energy efficiency. In building operations, AI manages HVAC systems and detects faults, while in design, it aids in rapid evaluation and optimisation. Early-stage design optimisation is more cost-effective than post-construction changes.

This paper, titled: ‘AI-driven design optimization for sustainable buildings: A systematic review’, reviews advancements in surrogate-assisted design optimisation, highlighting AI’s potential in sustainable building practices. It examines methodologies, identifies gaps, and suggests future research directions for AI-driven strategies to optimise building sustainability.
