Evaluating smart readiness of high-performance buildings in South Tyrol

Smart technologies enhance building environments and energy efficiency, with the Smart Readiness Indicator assessing their integration. This study, analysing 59 high performance buildings in South Tyrol, Italy, shows varied readiness levels but no clear link to energy performance class.
Luca Papapietro

Smart technologies in buildings are pivotal for creating healthier, more comfortable indoor environments with reduced energy consumption, enabling cost-effective solutions. They also support integrating renewable energy into decentralised energy systems.

The 2018 amendment of the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) introduced the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) to assess buildings' smart readiness.

This study applied the SRI to 59 high-performance buildings in South Tyrol, Italy, aiming to characterise smart readiness and its correlation with energy performance

Findings revealed varied smart readiness levels across building types, with offices being higher and residences lower, and no significant correlation between smart readiness and energy performance class.
