How can renewable energy be inclusive?

02 October 2024
A briefing from the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) explains that increasing renewable energy can benefit vulnerable households by extending support to those in rented or multi-home buildings, helping them save on energy costs and reduce fossil fuel reliance, with additional funding to mitigate carbon pricing impacts.
Luca Papapietro

The briefing from the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) discusses how increasing renewable energy can benefit vulnerable households. It highlights that public support for renewable installations has mainly benefited wealthier households.

To maximise the potential of renewables, support must also reach those in rented accommodations or multi-home buildings. Expanding this support can help vulnerable households save on energy costs and reduce their reliance on fossil fuels.

The briefing also examines the EU’s Social Climate Fund, which, among its various objectives to protect the most vulnerable, aims to mitigate the impact of carbon pricing on households by financing renewable energy projects.

A series of renewable energy projects benefitting vulnerable households is then presented.
