How cost-effective is industrialised deep retrofit?

New LCC study compares traditional and industrialised approaches to building renovation
Editorial Team

How economically convenient is industrialised deep retrofitting for existing buildings? Departing from the conventional comparison with minimum traditional retrofit costs, a new study from Eurac Research evaluates two equally performing scenarios based on the real demo case from INFINITE project. The analysis compares the costs of an advanced traditional retrofit with a double flow ventilation system, PV system, and centralized heat pump against an industrialised deep retrofit.

The 50-year investment costs are comparable, with a potential to narrow the gap further through market adoption of technological solutions. The industrialised deep retrofit exhibits advantages in the operation and maintenance phase, requiring fewer interventions and upgrades, contributing to prolonged life expectancy.

The study is featured in the Journal of Facade Design and Engineering Special Issue Multifunctional Façades for Renovation through Industrialization featuring findings from several H2020-funded projects.
