How the shift to low-GWP refrigerants can impact the RACHP sector

A new article explores in depth the European Commission's proposal on the F-Gas revision.

In 2022, the European Commission has proposed a revision of the F-Gas Regulation, aiming to accelerate the phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and promote the use of low-GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerants in the RACHP (Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, and Heat Pump) sector

The proposed revision could significantly impact the RACHP industry. Firstly, product prohibitions will be enforced for air-conditioners and heat pumps that utilize refrigerants with high GWP values. Secondly, the proposed revision introduces a steeper HFC phase-down timeline. A new article published on REHVA Journal explores what these provisions mean for the RACHP industry, what is the foreseen timeline and what will be the next steps for an agreement between the Council and Parliament, which is expected to happen in Q3 2023.
