The European Union has prioritised energy savings and efficiency in its strategy, aiming to enhance security, reduce emissions, and ensure affordable transitions. The Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) strengthens the legal framework for achieving the objectives of the "Fit for 55 package" and "REPowerEU" plan. To meet the 2030 energy efficiency target within seven years, timely implementation of the recast EED is essential.  Member States must incorporate new directive elements into their draft updates of national energy and climate plans (NECPs).

In support of this process, the Coalition for Energy Savings has released a comprehensive guide to offer recommendations for the implementation of the directive. An entire chapter is dedicated to public buildings and their exemplary role: enhancing their energy performance holds the potential to not only achieve significant energy savings but also demonstrate the numerous benefits of highly efficient buildings.
