More sustainable building materials for a more sustainable construction industry
Guidelines for cutting emissions in the construction sector
The construction industry, with its vast resource consumption, stands at the forefront in fighting climate change. A recent report, "Building Materials and the Climate: Constructing a New Future", jointly published by the United Nations Environment Programme and the Yale Center for Ecosystems + Architecture, urges the construction sector to transform its materials usage.
The report stresses the importance of using regenerative material practices, ethically-produced low carbon earth- and bio-based building materials, of improve methods to radically decarbonise traditional materials, and of embracing a circular economy in the construction sector.
