Plug-and-Play (PnP) façades offer promising solutions for future building renovations. A new study led by researchers from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and Politecnico di Milano delves into the features of a new PnP building system.

The proposed solution involves a lightweight PnP building system, combining a Light Steel Frame (LSF) structure with metal-faced sandwich panels and integrating various market-ready components.

Using a set-based design approach, the study shows the efficient integration of third-party products into the PnP module, making it highly industrialised, easy to assemble, customisable, scalable, and adaptable to existing buildings. 

Three prototyping levels are proposed, allowing for the demonstration of design efficiency and technical feasibility.
