The SmartWall is a new solution to transform urban living spaces into nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB). Developed as an off-site prefabricated hybrid façade system, the SmartWall not only addresses energy consumption but also is versatile in implementation and economic viability.
The new scientific paper SmartWall - Towards residential nZEB with off-site prefabricated hybrid façade systems using a variety of materials, explores the virtual application of SmartWall as a "Plug-n-Play" renovation strategy for achieving nZEB status in a typical Athens apartment.
Results show an 88% reduction in primary energy consumption without compromising indoorthermal comfort. Furthermore, the SmartWall can be easily adapted to install photovoltaic modules and seamlessly integrate an embodied HVAC system.
