Ukraine's recovery: a focus on energy efficiency

BPIE and DiXi new report shares insights on opportunities for the reconstruction.
Editorial Team

Since several years, Ukraine has dealt with high energy intensity per GDP unit, with levels twice as high as in Poland. In 2021, Ukraine set an ambitious target to halve its energy consumption by 2030. In 2022, energy efficiency has become integral to energy security, due to energy resources being wielded as a weapon.

Nowadays, for Ukraine, energy efficiency is intertwined with its reconstruction efforts to ensure sustainability. Ukraine is already embracing European norms for energy-efficient buildings, with a focus on minimal energy consumption. The country has adopted the Concept and National Plan for a gradual increase in nearly zero-energy buildings. In the reconstruction, the sustainability and efficiency of the construction sector is a critical issue.

Collaborating with the DiXi Group, the Building Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) has harnessed best practices in energy-efficient construction in a newly published report.
