Hotmaps tool: mapping and planning for heating and cooling

The Hotmaps project has developed a mapping and planning tool about heating and cooling in Europe.
Editorial Team

The H2020 Hotmaps project´s main goal is the development of an open source heating and cooling toolbox for mapping and cooling which provides default data for EU28 at national and local level.

The tool supports authorities and energy planners to set up a strategic heating and cooling plan. Specifically, the toolbox is:

  • user-driven, developed in close collaboration with 7 European pilot areas

  • open source

  • EU-28 compatible as it can be used by all EU28 as an open source

Moreover, the toolbox allows users to:

  • identify location of heating and cooling demand and supply on map

  • identify renewable energy potential to supply H&C

  • identify waste heat potential

  • estimate the potential for efficient district heating options

  • estimate and compare costs between individual and district heating

  • develop scenarios of decarbonisation
