The £6 million BuildZero project, led by the University of Sheffield, aims to revolutionise the UK’s building sector by examining the potential of the circular economy.

The initiative seeks to explore how to achieve zero new material extraction, zero emissions, and zero waste in construction. 

Given that buildings contribute over 40% of the UK’s carbon emissions and 60% of its waste, BuildZero will evaluate how reusing and recycling materials can address these issues. 

Experts from various fields will develop a roadmap for a circular construction industry, creating innovative methods and business models, and delivering practical tools and strategies for the sector.
