Construction Products Regulation updated to enhance smartness and circularity of EU building materials
The Council of the EU has adopted the updated Construction Products Regulation (CPR) to harmonise rules for marketing construction products, promoting their free movement across the single market. This regulation reduces administrative burdens, fosters circular economy practices, and supports technical innovation. Key updates include product digital passports for transparency, enhanced market surveillance, and new authority for the EU Commission to set standards when traditional methods stall.
The regulation aligns with the European Green Deal, addressing environmental impacts, as buildings significantly affect resource usage and emissions.
It will gradually take effect after publication, starting with standards-related articles within a month and full implementation within two years.
