The recently agreed recast of the Energy Performance of Building´s Directive (EPBD) sets more ambitious energy performance requirements for new and renovated buildings and pushes towards renovation of the EU building stock. In particular, by 2030 all new buildings should be zero-emission buildings, and by 2050 all building stock should be zero-emission too.
Other main points agreed are:
Solar energy installation in new buildings, public buildings and existing non-residential buildings undergoing renovation.
Minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) which means that in 2030 all non-residential buildings will be above the 16% worst performing and by 2033 above 26%. Regarding the renovation targets for residential buildings, Member States will need to ensure that they reduce the average energy consumption by 16% in 2030 and a range between 20-22% in 2035.
Phase-out of fossil fuel boilers in buildings by 2040
