The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) is leading efforts to decarbonise the city's building and construction sector, which is responsible for 70% of its greenhouse gas emissions.

Key initiatives include promoting circular construction, low-carbon building materials, and climate tech. NYC's Climate Mobilization Act and Local Law 97 aim to enhance energy efficiency and reduce operational and embodied carbon emissions, aligning with the city's goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

NYCEDC has also introduced guidelines for circular construction, supports mass timber as a low-carbon material, and tests climate tech innovations at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

These initiatives target both environmental sustainability and green job creation.
