On February 6-7, the European Builders Confederation (EBC) met with partners of the Horizon Europe project BIO4EEB (BIO insulation materials for Enhancing the Energy performance of Buildings) in Naples to review progress on bio-based insulation materials.

The project aims to use sustainable materials like Posidonia seaweed and bio-based foams to improve building energy performance and address insulation shortages. Discussions focused on transitioning from material development to demonstration activities across Italy, Spain, Lithuania, and France. Key topics included fire performance improvements, cost-effectiveness, and commercialisation strategies.

Participants also toured SOPHIA High Tech's facilities, showcasing material innovation potential for the construction sector. EBC ensures alignment with small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) needs and industry standards.
