Energy renovation of homes

The EU's energy future is all about making homes more energy-efficient, but the big question is whether we're moving quickly enough.

A new study shows that energy-efficient homes could save Europe €312 billion annually by 2050. Imagine a future where every home has solar panels, top-notch insulation, and smart appliances that optimise energy use. But, we're still heavily reliant on imported oil and gas, which complicates things.

The current energy system is a result of choices made over a century ago, and we're paying for those decisions now. The 1973 oil shock was a wake-up call, highlighting the need for energy diversification. Today, smarter demand-side management and improved grid flexibility could significantly lower energy costs and help achieve the EU's climate goals. However, the transition to this future isn't happening fast enough, and we need to ramp up efforts to renovate homes across Europe.
