Greece tightens rules on renewable energy installations

Greece has adopted an extensive law which cuts down the maximum capacity of solar power systems for households and business.

The legal framework in Greece has changed the net metering, the rules for renewable energy communities, the installation of wind turbines, the role of the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) and licensing for photovoltaics and natural gas–fired power plants.

In particular, Greece has adopted an extensive law which cuts down the maximum capacity of solar power systems for households and business. which now can generate the maximum of 10 kw and 100 kW respectively.

Concerning energy communities, two types will be created: renewable energy communities and citizen Energy Communities. Moreover, the main change is that at least 30 members are required to form a community, up from five.
