Installation of the prototype DualSun PVT panels for the EXCESS project

The H2020 EXCESS project aims to spearhead four innovative demonstration projects, introducing technical solutions that enable buildings to produce more renewable energy than they consume over the course of a year. One of their demonstration projects is based in Hasselt which represent the coastal climatic zone.

At the Belgian demosite in Hasselt, the installation of the prototype PVT panels developed by EXCESS partner DualSun started this week. In total 85 PVT panels will be installed on the roof of the EXCESS positive energy apartment buildings. The thermal and electrical energy from the panels will be used in a multi-source heat pump system. The installation of the panels is a major milestone in the process of converting the buildings to positive energy building (PEB) standards. The installation process will approximately conclude between end of September and mid-October 2022.

Organised by EXCESS partners VITO Belgium and CORDIUM, partners toured the 20-apartment flagship EXCESS building project in Hasselt in June. The EXCESS PEBs in Hasselt are part of a larger residential area with 68 apartments intended partially for social housing, making affordability a key objective.
