Kosovo* is launching the Western Balkans’ largest solar thermal district heating project, Solar4Kosovo 2, led by Termokos in Prishtina. The €81.7 million project is funded by Termokos (€4.4M), the  European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (€23.2M loan), Germany’s KfW Development Bank (€31.6M loan), and the European Union’s Western Balkans Investment Framework (€22.5M grant).

A 30 MW solar thermal plant near Shkabaj will store heat in a 380,000 m3 water pit, supplying 32,000 citizens.

The project includes a 20 MW network extension using heat from the Kosovo B coal plant. Additionally, a 100 MW solar photovoltaic project is planned.

Five other solar thermal projects are in Serbia, with only Pančevo operational.
