Kosovo secures EUR 50 million loan for major public building energy efficiency project

Kosovo has secured a EUR 50 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for an energy efficiency project in 400 public buildings, aiming for 30-50% energy savings and enhanced comfort, co-funded by the government, the European Union (EU), and Denmark.

Kosovo* has secured a EUR 50 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for an energy efficiency project in public buildings, totalling EUR 86 million. 

The loan will be directed to the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund (KEEF) for upgrades in 400 public buildings, including administrative, educational, and healthcare facilities. 

The project is co-funded by the Kosovo government, the EU, and the Danish Fund. Measures include insulation, system upgrades, and structural improvements, aiming for 30-50% energy savings. 

It will also enhance building comfort and energy performance, contributing to sustainability in the region.

*This designation is without prejudice to positions on status and is in line with UNSCR 1244/99 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo Declaration of Independence.
