Iceland's National Pavilion for the 19th International Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia will present "Lavaforming," led by architect Arnhildur Pálmadóttir.

This innovative project aims to create sustainable building materials from controlled lava flows, harnessing Iceland's unique geological conditions. By viewing volcanic activity as a renewable resource, Lavaforming proposes using lava as foundational material, reducing environmental impacts and eliminating harmful mining practices.

This initiative aligns with Iceland's legacy of utilising natural resources, highlighting its commitment to sustainable design

Pálmadóttir, known for her focus on recyclable materials, will showcase the project in May 2025, marking Iceland’s first open call at the Biennale.
