LIFE COHEAT2: steering Denmark towards green heating

03 January 2025
LIFE COHEAT2 is leading efforts in southern Denmark to transition 100,000 households to green heating by 2030, through heat pumps, district heating, and local solutions like Thermonet, supported by project development units and community engagement.

Winter is approaching in southern Denmark, prompting the need for greener heating solutions. Over 20 municipalities aim for a fully green heating supply by 2030, targeting 100,000 households.

LIFE COHEAT2 has led consultations to renovate homes and connect them to district heating or replace oil/gas boilers with heat pumps. Some areas use Thermonet, a local heating approach with a shared heat pump. Project development units help homeowners access heating solutions. Sønderborg aims for carbon neutrality by 2029, with a local heat organisation facilitating community involvement.

The project has already installed heat pumps, improved energy efficiency, and connected homes to district heating.
