The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has released the global edition of its Whole Life Carbon Assessment for the Built Environment (WLCA) standard, developed in collaboration with the UK’s Department for Transport and Net Zero Waste Scotland. The second edition, informed by a public consultation, comprehensively evaluates carbon costs and benefits in construction and infrastructure projects worldwide. The updated standard covers all built assets and infrastructure projects throughout their lifecycle, addressing 40% of global carbon output.

RICS plans to promote the standard at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai. It aligns with global efforts to combat climate change by aiding carbon reduction in the built environment sector.
