The potential of renovation of EU building stock needs to be maximise

Sibyl Steuwer and Lisa Graaf from the Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) highlight the importance of maximising the potential of existing building stock to address Germany's housing shortage and advance building sector decarbonisation. They also highlight the need to remove hurdles in energy renovations, provide long-term planning security, and ensure positive narratives to garner support for the energy transition. 

The experts stress the need for continuous support for serial renovation to meet climate targets, advocating for a clear and stable policy framework. They also emphasise the importance of target-group-specific measures to benefit vulnerable and low-income households, particularly in the context of the housing crisis.
