Revolutionising discovery for tropical climate cooling systems and indoor comfort
Researchers from UC Berkeley, in collaboration with partners in Singapore, have developed an innovative cooling solution for office buildings in tropical climates. By combining air conditioners set to a slightly higher temperature (26.5°C) with ceiling fans for fixed airflow, energy consumption was reduced by an impressive 32% without compromising occupant comfort.
The study, conducted in Singapore, a hot and humid city-state, demonstrated that this hybrid cooling method not only maintained thermal comfort but also improved conditions for occupants. Over-cooling issues were significantly reduced, making this approach a promising solution for energy-efficient cooling in similar climates.
