London is a model of sustainable urban design, featuring innovative architecture that addresses climate change and promotes green living, as shown in these examples.

  • Growing Underground (2015) utilises former bomb shelters for underground farming, producing microgreens with minimal environmental impact and supporting local restaurants.

  • The Flamboyance of Flamingo Playground (2023) revitalises Parsloes Park with playful designs that engage the community and honour local history.

  • The Crystal (2012), a landmark in the Green Enterprise District, is a sustainability hub focusing on urban issues like water and energy conservation through interactive exhibits.

  • 15 Clerkenwell Close (2017) combines sustainability with historical preservation, reusing Norman limestone and integrating traditional design elements to reflect the area’s heritage.

  • 100 Liverpool Street (2022) reimagines an ’80s office building, conserving much of the original structure while adding eco-friendly materials and public terraces.

  • Bloomberg Headquarters (2017) merges energy efficiency with cultural respect, restoring the nearby Temple of Mithras and evoking ancient Roman pathways.

  • Citicape House (expected 2024) features the city’s largest green wall, with over 400,000 plants that enhance air quality

  • The Black & White Building (2023) uses sustainable timber and maximises natural light through sunshade positioning.

  • Skygarden (2015), atop the Walkie-Talkie skyscraper, offers a lush rooftop garden with panoramic views, blending architecture and nature.

Together, these projects showcase London’s dedication to eco-conscious urban design through adaptive reuse, community engagement, and innovative green spaces.
