Sustainable cooling coating to replace traditional air conditioning
Scientists at Cambridge University in the UK have developed a plant-based coating which can cool down buildings.

Researchers at Cambridge University have developed a plant-based film to use for coating of buildings which has been called "passive daytime radiative cooling" (PDRC). This innovative material represents a greener and sustainable way for cooling and thus it could replace the traditional polluting air conditioners in buildings. The coating comes in a range of textures and colours and it is aesthetically nice.
There are two important requirements which should apply for it to work: it must have high solar reflectance and it must have high emissivity in infrared bands to emit heat into outer space. Only a few materials have these properties.
