In his COP29 reflections, Professor Mike Kagioglou, CIOB President, emphasised the built environment's crucial role in addressing climate change. Despite the sector's innovation, he stressed the need for more ambitious actions and regulations to achieve meaningful progress. Observing the challenges faced by smaller nations, such as flooding in Pacific islands, highlighted the human impact of climate change.

Kagioglou called for national programmes that showcase exemplary practices and inspire others. While he was inspired by innovation, he remains concerned about the slow pace of change and the need for leadership to drive large-scale transformation.
