Following the launch of the Timber in Construction Roadmap, the Structural Timber Association (STA) aims to increase timber use in UK construction, supporting the country’s net zero goals and housebuilding targets.

Alex Goodfellow, CEO of Donaldson Offsite, highlights timber’s advantages, such as quicker build times (15 weeks for timber vs. 26–30 weeks for masonry or concrete), reduced weather dependency, zero waste, and cost savings

Although the UK imports 80% of its timber, mainly from the Baltics, the supply chain is strong and supported by local forestry efforts. Goodfellow stresses the need for industry guidance to ensure safe, sustainable timber use and calls for legislative support to drive demand.
