TRI-HP final outputs: Novel system for multi-family homes
The EU-funded TRI-HP project, involving 12 partners, has developed advanced trigeneration systems for eco-friendly and affordable energy solutions in residential buildings. These systems combine heat pumps, solar power, and energy storage, utilising 80% of self-produced renewable energy on-site.
Recognising the environmental impact of synthetic refrigerants, the project focused on sustainable alternatives like hydrocarbons, water, ammonia, and carbon dioxide. TRI-HP created heat pumps using propane and carbon dioxide and introduced groundbreaking concepts, including a dual source/sink reversible heat pump system and a solar-ice slurry system, which efficiently captures and stores solar energy. These innovations, backed by an open-source simulation framework, mark a significant step towards sustainable residential energy management.
