Webinar - COGITO Digital Twin Platform & Data Visualization Tool

Editorial Team

On October 31st, BUILD UP was pleased to host the 4th webinar in an ongoing series from the COGITO project called ‘Practical Tools for the Construction Sector in Digital Twin’. The series, organised by the COGITO Team and BUILD UP, is aimed to present the COGITO Digital Construction 4.0 tool-box in addition to gathering important feedback from the audience. The October 31st webinar, entitled "COGITO Digital Twin Platform & Data Visualization Tool", was focused on two keys tools – the Digital Twin Platform and the Digital Command Center - and presented to the audience a very practical and technical overview of both tools.

The webinar was guested by two speakers, Giorgos Giannakis, PhD at Hypertech Energy Labs and Kyriakos Katsigarakis, Research Fellow in BIM Platforms and Data Integration at the University College London and moderated by the BUILD UP Team.

The session began with a brief overview of the COGITO project from Giorgos Giannakis followed by a short Q&A. During the overview, Giorgios highlighted that a thorough desk research conducted during the development of the COGITO project proposal revealed that the construction phase had previously been overlooked by the Digital Twin community. He also highlighted that there is a need to go beyond BIM in the current construction sector. Therefore, the COGITO project aims to, among other aspects, deliver a Construction Digital Twin Platform, deliver digital tools for quality control, workflow management, and health and safety management, quantify the COGITO tool benefits, as well as research, design and promote standardisation data exchange formats.

Giorgos Giannakis: "The construction sector had been overlooked by the Digital Twin community".

Following the introduction, focus of the presentations then switched to the two tools that were to be presented during the webinar: the Digital Twin Platform and the Digital Command Center. To start off, Kyriakos Katsigarakis presented a detailed overview and explanation of the Digital Twin Platform, which plays a central role in the COGITO solution. The presentation was conducted at a very practical and technical level, giving a thorough overview of the tool and how it works. To support, Kyriakos used a video demonstration of the tool with commentary. His presentation was rounded off by the second Q&A of the session.

Giorgos Giannakis then returned to present the second tool, the Digital Command Center, which is a part of a 3D visualisation tool that offers holistic view of a construction project digital twin. He also gave a very practical and technical overview of the tool, supported by a video demonstration. The webinar concluded with the final Q&A of the session, followed by an interactive poll for the audience.

BUILD UP looks forward to the 5th and final webinar of the series, anticipated to be held in the first quarter of 2024.
