Sustainable modernisation of a historic Kraków building
Sustainable modernisation of a historic Kraków building
The terraced house, listed on the National Heritage List, serves both residential and commercial purposes, including social housing and a famous antiquarian bookshop. Recent renovations have included replacing solid fuel heating sources with electric and gas systems and connecting to district heating. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to modernise the building while preserving its historical integrity.
Under the FuturHist project, further improvements are planned to enhance the building's energy efficiency and sustainability. These include insulating the building envelope, reintroducing traditional clay insulation for foundation walls, and installing mechanical ventilation with heat recovery.
Additionally, nature-based solutions such as façade gardens and rainwater collection systems will be implemented to improve the microclimate and protect the structure. The project also aims to install photovoltaic panels and smart control systems for heating and ventilation, ensuring a modern yet historically respectful renovation.
