Fit for 55
Fit for 55
The EU’s Fit for 55 package sets out a comprehensive set of legislative measures designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. Covering sectors from energy and transport to buildings and industry, it updates existing laws and introduces new instruments to accelerate the transition towards a climate‑neutral economy. The package aims to ensure that every part of the economy contributes fairly to Europe’s climate goals while strengthening energy security and competitiveness.
Alongside its environmental ambition, Fit for 55 places strong emphasis on social fairness and economic resilience. Measures such as the Social Climate Fund are intended to support vulnerable households, micro‑enterprises, and transport users during the transition. By combining regulatory reform, targeted support, and long‑term planning, the package provides a coherent pathway for Member States to deliver on the EU’s 2030 climate objectives and prepare for a sustainable future.
