Editorial Team
In support of the 8th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency which took place in Versailles, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has produced a report which highlights the importance of energy efficiency actions in the next decade. Recent trends relating to demand and policies have been analysed and possible implementation and investments to reach energy efficiency targets.
Some highlights of the report are:
- Global energy efficiency progress reached 2.2% in 2022 showing an increasing rate from the previous 5 year
- Global energy demand grew by around 1% in 2022. Without energy efficiency, this percentage would be 3 times higher
- Energy efficiency policies have strengthened globally in the past year
- Governments have supported energy consumers through awareness campaigns
- Sales of key efficiency technologies are surging (e.g. heat pump sales)
- Efficiency investment is expected to reach record levels in 2023
