Digital twins' contribution to buildings' energy efficiency

This study explores how digital twins can improve building energy efficiency by enhancing monitoring, modelling, and maintenance while addressing challenges and identifying future research opportunities for sustainable practices.
Luca Papapietro

This study, titled 'Leveraging Digital Twins for Enhancing Building Energy Efficiency: A Literature Review of Applications, Technologies, and Challenges', examines the role of digital twins in enhancing building energy efficiency, a key strategy in reducing global energy consumption and CO2 emissions

Through a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis, the study explores digital twins' contributions to real-time monitoring, predictive modelling, renewable energy integration, and maintenance. It also addresses challenges like interoperability, scalability, and privacy.

The work identifies emerging trends, research gaps, and provides insights to support the future adoption of digital twins in building sustainability, emphasising their importance in intelligent energy practices.
