How to design renewable energy targets to achieve climate and energy security goals

Editorial Team

IRENA has published a report for policymakers on how to design effective renewable energy targets in order to respond to the climate and energy security goals, making also energy more affordable. The recent geopolitical and climate-related events have deteriorated even more the previous situation.

The report presents the latest trends of renewable energy deployment, also focusing on the national level. For example, the report mentions how the European Commission´s REPowerEU plan aims to double the rate of deployment of heat pumps, and just before that also the UK adopted a target to install 600,000 heat pumps a year in homes and in public buildings by 2028.

Finally the report provides guidance on how to improve the targets of renewable energy deployments.
