Local Energy Agencies for Peripheral Regions (LEAP)

LEAP enhances home energy efficiency in rural Ireland by coordinating retrofits, securing funding, and ensuring quality through strategic partnerships.
Luca Papapietro

Integrated Home Renovation Services (IHRS) help reduce the EU’s building-related CO2 emissions. Success stories, from Hungary to Spain, showcase trust-building, tailored support, and financial solutions for sustainable renovations.

The LEAP (Local Energy Agencies for Peripheral Regions) project, running from November 2022 to April 2026, supports energy efficiency improvements in Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, and West County Galway. It assists homeowners in retrofitting older homes reliant on oil and solid fuels by providing assessments, upgrade recommendations, grant assistance, contractor coordination, and financial management.

Funded by EU LIFE CET, homeowner fees, and the Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme (EEOS), LEAP ensures compliance and quality control. By forming strategic partnerships with Atlantic Technological University and County Councils, the project streamlines retrofitting, making it scalable and impactful in achieving Ireland’s climate goals.
