The OpenGela project

The OpenGela project enhances urban regeneration by providing neighborhood-based one-stop shops offering holistic, inclusive, and community-focused support for home renovations.

Integrated Home Renovation Services (IHRS) help reduce the EU’s building-related CO2 emissions. Success stories, from Hungary to Spain, showcase trust-building, tailored support, and financial solutions for sustainable renovations.

The OpenGela project, initiated in 2019 under H2020-HIROSS4all and expanded in 2023 through the LIFE BIRTUOSS project, aims to foster holistic urban regeneration by establishing neighbourhood one-stop shops (OSS) for home renovation

Managed by the Basque Government and active in over 25 municipalities, it integrates physical and social dimensions to improve residents' quality of life, emphasising community trust and inclusivity.

Services include legal, financial, and technical support, personalised financial assessments, and community engagement spaces.

Funded by EU programmes and local grants, OpenGela’s success is built on integrality, proximity, and equity, prioritising accessibility, affordability, and community well-being.
