Topic of the Month (December 2024)
Each month a relevant topic and several sub-topics are covered in detail. For the Topic of the Month, content following a common thread is developed by BUILD UP Editorial Board in collaboration with the Board of Ambassadors and other relevant experts in the field. This includes producing articles, case studies, webinars and more, all in line with the specific topic selected. Relevant events are also identified and highlighted.
Topics of the Month are announced at the end of the previous month in our website and newsletter. Please write us if you wish to know more about our upcoming topics of the month.

Energy efficiency in buildings plays a critical role in decarbonising the European building stock. Check the most relevant topics the BUILD UP community has addressed in 2024 and revisit relevant articles.

This paper presents a methodology to model energy savings from building retrofits in the EU, showing potential savings of 40–60% in space heating, with varying costs based on climate and insulation.

The 2024 BSO update provides granular data on residential and service buildings regarding their energy consumption, associated GHG emissions, activity in the building sector and socio-economic aspects. To address challenges in data availability and harmonisation, the recast Energy Performance of Buildings Directive asks Member States to set up national databases for the energy performance of buildings and to transfer information to the BSO annually. By supporting transparency and informing policy, the BSO aims to monitor energy performance trends and promote sustainable practices to achieve a zero-emission EU building stock by 2050.
