The SENSEI project has made this video to show its results, as it ended in 2022. This project has been dedicated to investigate the potential of Pay-for-performance (P4P) business models applied to energy refurbishment in the European Union, as it has some advantages such as the power to attract additional investments or the capacity to generate significant energy savings.

The Covid-19 pandemic changed all the priorities for the European Commission, so that in March 2020 it presented the "industrial strategy" that would be focused on the green and digital transition. In 2021 it published an updated edition of this strategy, and is now committed to the creation of a new "High Level Construction Forum" (HLCF) focused specifically on this sector.

The lack of interoperability between datasets is a current problem, and also applies to buildings. In this respect, the MODERATE project aims to develop an open marketplace so that data owners can reliably share their data. 

Existing buildings are at the forefront of energy consumption in Europe and are currently considered energy inefficient. The DIGIBUILD project focuses on creating digital enablers to transform existing buildings into digital and more efficient ones, thus contributing to the creation of energy-efficient building data spaces. 

The European Horizon2020 project W.E.District aims to integrate multiple sources of renewable energy and excess heat at three demonstration sites in Rumania, Sweden and Spain under different climatic conditions across Europe to showcase solutions for 100% fossil-free district heating and cooling systems.

BUILDING CONVERSATIONS UP WITH... Dan Stefanica, Head of EU projects at European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) talking about renewable heating solutions for existing buildings.

Dan Stefanica is the Head of EU Projects at the European Heat Pump Association in Brussels. With a master's degree in lifelong learning and project management, he leads the implementation of 11 EU funded and internal projects, covering everything related to the research, design, deployment, and training needed in the fast-growing heat pump sector. He is also the chair of the EHPA Research and Innovation Committee and manages new project proposals that answer the Horizon Europe, LIFE, Interreg, Innovation Fund and Tender calls. Before this position, he worked in change management at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

The EU-funded REMIND project will seek to draw inspiration from indigenous Mayan urbanisation techniques in an attempt to improve urban planning and design in the Merida region (Mexico). This area has been affected by rapid urbanisation that is unsustainable, so the REMIND project will recover spatial patterns that can benefit sustainable urban development.
