New EU funding for energy projects in the Western Balkans

The EU allocates EUR 2.1 billion for energy, transport and environment projects in the Western Balkans.

The European Commission has allocated EUR 2.1 billion for a total of 14 projects in energy, transport and environment in Western Balkans. Out of the 14, 8 projects are connected to the energy sector, energy efficiency measures, water system, and green transport.

For example, North Macedonia has received funding for the power grid and energy efficiency. Hence, the transmission network in the south-east region will be strengthened and renewable energy will be integrated. Moreover, the country will aim to reach energy savings and reduce CO2 emissions from their buildings. Sub-loans and grants will be provided to municipalities for plan these energy renovation projects.

Serbia has also received funds for the energy efficiency renovation of the Technical Faculties Campus in Belgrade.
