MEP Ciarán Cuffe attended a panel discussion in Dublin on the new EPBD, hosted by the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC) and the European Parliament Liaison Office. He discusses of the positive impacts that the new regulation can provide to society and the environment. In fact, it can lower energy bills, thus decreasing energy poverty, and reducing carbon emissions by gradually improving the energy performance of buildings.

He also adds that the regulation can give Ireland an opportunity to lead on embodied carbon which, until now, was left unregulated. Moreover, as stated by Dublin City Architect Ali Grehan, the focus on whole life carbon and deep renovation can set up a path towards a net zero building environment.
