Why not underestimate indoor air pollution?

17 January 2025
Indoor air pollution, caused by tobacco smoke, cooking, cleaning products, mould, and dust, poses serious health risks, but can be mitigated through ventilation, HEPA filters, green products, air purifiers, and indoor plants.

Indoor air pollution is a significant health concern, often surpassing outdoor pollution in severity.

Common sources include tobacco smoke, cooking stoves, cleaning products, mould, pet dander, and dust, all contributing to respiratory and cardiovascular issues, cancer, and other health problems

Tobacco smoke alone is linked to severe pollution, and cooking stoves in developing regions cause 3.1 million annual deaths.

Mitigation strategies include ensuring proper ventilation, using HEPA filters, adopting green cleaning products, maintaining cleanliness, and incorporating air-purifying plants like peace lilies. Air purifiers and low-VOC materials also help create healthier indoor environments, reducing exposure to harmful pollutants effectively.
