Is your home "heat pump ready"?
As winter prompts consideration of alternative heating methods, heat pumps emerge as an eco-friendly option, with potential cost benefits and subsidies in many European countries.
However, a study by Cambridge University suggests caution. Heat pumps, operating at lower temperatures than gas boilers, may increase heating demand by 5 to 20 percent, requiring adjustments in heating schedules. Factors such as poor insulation, low thermal mass, and cold climates intensify this effect.
Additional costs include the need for larger radiators and the potential requirement of a hot water cylinder due to the inability of heat pumps to provide hot water on demand.
