The webinar, moderated by Lenka Bajarova (from AMIRES), presented the main features of Switch2Save technology and its potential impact and introduced the Architectural Design Competition.
The first speaker to take the floor was Matthias Fahland (FEP), Switch2Save project coordinator. Fahland talked about the motivation and the aim of the project, highlighting the objectives:
- Low weight of components for retrofitting existing buildings.
- Improved insulation properties.
- Direct integration to windows and glass facades.
- Reasonable costs.
Also, Fahland pointed to the Smart Window Technologies of the project and its demostration strategy.
After this, Greger Gregard, from ChromoGenics AB, spoke about the demo installation in Uppsala (Sweden), going through all the phases: technical achievements, pre-monitoring, installation and follow-up monitoring, presenting the different data collected.
Then it was Sara Van Rompaey's turn. The architect from E2ARC talked about the Switch2Save Architectural Design Competition, that aims to collect design concepts of non residential buildings (new or renovation projects), featuring glass facades, roofs, or large window to wall areas, in any climatic context. The registration deadline is the 31st January 2023 and the submission deadline is the 31st March 2023.
The session was closed by Matthias Fahland, who did an overview of the project, its impact and key results, but also the concerns tackled. Finally, a few minutes were reserved for the participants to answer to the questions raised by the audience.
