Pavillon with recycled materials in Germany

23 May 2023
The Mehr.WERT.Pavillon has been built using recycled materials and it is an example of a sustainable and resilient building.
Editorial Team

Within the Bundesgartenschau in Heilbronn, this pavillon has been built as a representation of sustainability and circular construction, emphasising particularly the use of resources and materials. The pavillon used the existing urban mine as a source of materials which were already used or recycled.

The pavillon uses different types of materials which can be listed as below:

  • facades and roofs are designed with glass panels from recycled glass and industrial glass waste
  • the load-bearing structure is largely made of recycled steel
  • the built-in elements are made of recycled HDPE plastic waste
  • the pavillon floor and landscaping of the garden are made of reused and recycled products from mineral construction and demolition waste.

The project has been awarded the Sustainable Infrastructure Grand Prize of the Green Solutions Awards 2020-2021.
