The current state of circular economy in European cities - Circular Cities Declaration
In order to reach the climate targets and implement the energy transition, cities need to become more sustainable and apply the circular economy principles. In fact, they represent a big portion of global resource demands, manage several key sectors with circular potentials, are responsible for land use management, and have significant procurement and investment budget.
Hence, ICLEI with the support of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, have published this report which identifies eight key trends for how circularity is being implemented in Europe’s urban areas, and also analyses the barriers. The study provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of circularity in European cities and reports specific examples.
The report shows that in the past few years there has been an increase of projects and initiatives to support cities in their circular transition.
