Heat Pump Wave: findings from JRC new report
What is the role of heat pumps in reducing greenhouse gas emissions? The European Commission's Joint Research Centre has released a new report with a in-depth analysis of opportunities and challenges of switching to heat pumps.
Among the opportunities, the analysis made thanks to the European Building Energy Model shows that there could be a reduction by 36% of the EU's gas and oil consumption, if 30 million fossil fuel individual boilers in residential dwellings were substituted with heat pumps.
The study reports also the need for skilled workers, and highlights the importance of financial support for vulnerable groups during the transition.
